Pair of French Brutalist Tripod Stools
Pair of French Brutalist Tripod Stools
A pair of solid-wood tripod chairs carved in the French Brutalist vernacular of the 1960s. The design is defined by a thick, rounded seat set on three faceted legs and a tall, sculptural backrest with an integrated hand-hold. The chairs simplified geometry and direct carving emphasized mass, tactility, and the natural character of the wood.
These chairs reflect the rustic–modern tradition found in mid-century French workshops, in which functional seating was shaped as expressive, hand-carved forms that sit between furniture and sculpture.
