Guillerme & Chambron Oak and Ceramic Buffet
Guillerme & Chambron Oak and Ceramic Buffet
This sideboard by Guillerme & Chambron for Votre Maison, France, 1960s, is a robust piece that speaks to the duo’s sense of material clarity and proportion. Constructed in solid oak, the form is anchored by a recessed plinth and defined by two sliding doors with sculpted pulls that open to broad storage compartments. On the right, a concealed cabinet section is fronted with hand-glazed ceramic tiles by Boleslaw Danikowski, composed of abstract relief motifs in maroon, black, white, and blue glazes that introduce layered texture and chromatic depth to the otherwise restrained oak composition.
The piece embodies Guillerme & Chambron’s architectural approach to furniture—structure used as ornament, and carving as a language of construction. The slightly projecting top and the quiet asymmetry between oak and ceramic create a balanced tension characteristic of Votre Maison’s Lille workshop production.
