Georges Cueille Vallauris Ceramic Wall Plate
Georges Cueille Vallauris Ceramic Wall Plate
A hand-painted ceramic wall piece by Georges Cueille, produced in Vallauris, France, late 1950s. Hand-formed in terracotta and incised with a relief scene of a mother and daughter standing arm in arm, the figures are rendered with a stylized simplicity.
The surface is painted in matte white and gray glazes, with subtle green, gold, and red accents highlighting the girl’s dress, flower, and offering. The back is unglazed and hand-signed “Cueille Vallauris Made in France,” with a built-in notch for wall hanging. In good vintage condition, it has a tiny flake in the glaze at the front and back rim, and a barely visible hairline crack.
The piece reads as both painting and sculpture—a wonderful example of midcentury French ceramic art.
