Ettore Sottsass for Bitossi, Rocchetto Vase 1986 Production

An Ettore Sottsass Rocchetto vase for Bitossi, produced circa 1986. The form is a tall, narrow-bodied cylinder with a flared base, decorated in black and white geometric banding that reflects Sottsass’s interest in archetypal volumes activated through bold surface pattern. Signed to the underside and offered with its original box.

Sottsass’s collaboration with Bitossi began in the 1950s and extended over several decades, producing ceramic forms that anticipated the postmodern language he later defined through the founding of Memphis in 1981.
